Digital technologies are changing the transport industry at a rapid pace. From March 29 to April 1, 2022, this will be one of the topics discussed at Intertraffic in Amsterdam, one of the largest trade fairs in the industry.

VITRONIC, a Wiesbaden-based company, will exhibit there and will present its solutions for toll enforcement and traffic monitoring in Hall 1.

Efficient Toll Systems for Modern Roads

The transport revolution not only opens new doors for mobility, but also requires substantial investments to support these alternative ideas. Forward-thinking toll technology offers its users a high degree of flexibility and makes automatic enforcement possible, in both mobile and stationery solutions. At Intertraffic, interested visitors can learn more about VITRONIC’s mobile toll enforcement vehicles and stationary toll systems. 

Mobile Toll Enforcement with Enforcement Bar

As a trade show highlight, VITRONIC will present the Enforcement Bar, which is already being used for mobile toll enforcement in Poland. It is a fully automatic number plate identification and classification system that can be used while driving. It enables the automatic recognition of number plates as well as the classification of different vehicle classes. The system’s technology makes it possible to recognize number plates in four directions. It is able to achieve a very high detection rate, even at high speeds, and enables enforcement officers to continuously identify suspect cases. The system transmits the collected data to the Electronic Toll Collection System, where they are checked in database.

Traffic engineering for safe intersections

Micromobility in cities is on the rise and the number of vulnerable road users is increasing. In addition to speed and red light enforcement, technologies and traffic concepts are needed to protect those known as vulnerable road users.

At Intertraffic Amsterdam, VITRONIC will present a video-based measurement system that uses artificial intelligence to increase safety at crosswalks. A neural network-based system monitors the crosswalk, for example, and automatically distinguishes between pedestrians, cyclists, and motorized road users. If a vehicle disregards pedestrians’ right of way or endangers them, a violation is detected.

Intelligent sensor technology: Optimized Traffic Flow

Optimizing traffic flow through new technology is the focus of the Local Traffic Safety Analyzer (LTSA) research project, a partnership between VITRONIC and the University of Applied Sciences Potsdam and the German Aerospace Center (DLR). The LTSA is a distributed recording system that specifically detects more vulnerable road users, such as cyclists and pedestrians, within the road space. In the future, the LTSA will support automated and connected transportation to improve traffic flow and increase traffic safety.
