Interpack 2017: VITRONIC presents new solutions for increased safety and quality in pharmaceutical packaging

Inspection system for transdermal patches is introduced at the trade fair +++ Comprehensive solution for completely safe packaging process for glass vials

Wiesbaden, March 30, 2017 – VITRONIC, a global leader in industrial machine vision, will present innovative solutions for quality inspections in pharmaceutical manufacturing at Interpack. The latest development is the inspection system for TTS (transdermal therapeutic systems), also called active ingredient patches. VITRONIC will also exhibit a comprehensive solution for the quality inspection of vials.

Safe products up-close on patients

TTS administer their active ingredients through skin contact. Therefore, strict guidelines must be observed during production. With the new VINSPEC HEALTHCARE system for the visual inspection of TTS, the Wiesbaden-based company presents an innovative product that covers all important steps in the production process of active ingredient patches and ensures 100% quality inspection of products.

The system inspects the backing layer and active ingredient and detects contaminations as small as 0.1 mm². It also checks the punching and sealed seam of the TTS. During the packaging process, the system inspects the printed elements on the surface of the pouch (positioning of the text, print quality including OCR, OCV and barcodes) as well as the sealed seam running around its perimeter. The inspection speed is 200 parts per minute and web  for clocked production and 400 parts per minute and web for continuous production.

Multiple inspection tasks with one goal in mind: quality

The new standard for the quality inspection of glass vials is another highlight presented by VITRONIC at the trade fair. The optical inspection system covers all inspection requirements throughout the entire packaging process.

A 100% quality inspection takes place both during the inspection of empty glass vials and during the filling and capping process. This ensures that valuable pharmaceutical products are not filled into defective containers and that the vials are capped safely. This minimizes the waste of active ingredients and ensures high product quality through to use on patients.

In addition to the comprehensive quality inspection, the inspection systems also integrate Auto-ID functions for labeling vials.

All VINSPEC HEALTHCARE systems can be seamlessly integrated into the production and packaging processes of pharmaceutical manufacturers. VITRONIC systems use inline inspection to detect possible defects in the respective process step and provide quick process feedback. In addition, the individual inspection solutions can be flexibly adapted to various product types with short changeover times.

VITRONIC technologies are presented from May 4 to May 10, 2017 at Interpack in Düsseldorf, in hall 16, booth D09.
