VITRONIC’s 3D volume measuring system VOLUMEC HD 3.x is now also approved for tilt tray sorters. With the extended certification, all conveyor technologies can now be covered, be it the measurement of shipments on conveyor belts, cross belt sorters or tilt tray sorters. This makes VOLUMEC HD 3.x one of the most versatile systems on the market.

Small and irregularly shaped shipments require reliable volume measurement

Due to increasing e-commerce and the resulting higher volumes of small shipments and non-cubic parcel formats, parcel logistics providers are facing new challenges. Smaller objects of different shapes must be reliably scanned and sorted. This task is still performed on tilt tray sorters, which still account for a significant share of conveyor technology in Europe. Compared to other conveyor belts or crossbelt sorters, with tilt tray sorters, shipments have to slide over electrically or mechanically tiltable transport trays. This type of sorter is particularly suitable for flexible and pliable goods and is therefore also used, among other things, in hubs of parcel service providers, distribution centers or also in the baggage distribution systems in airports.

Extended certification now also covers tilt tray sorters

Following certification for conveyor belts and crossbelt sorters, VITRONIC’s VOLUMEC HD is now also approved for this type of sorter and can play to its strengths on tilt tray sorters: The 3D volume measurement system determines the volume of cuboid and arbitrarily shaped objects using a special camera-based laser scan and can thus reliably measure even very small and very flat packages. New sensor technology and improved laser technology ensure transparency in the flow of goods. This allows for conveying speeds of up to 3 m/s.
