The semi-stationary speed measurement system from VITRONIC convinces municipalities and police throughout Germany.
A few days ago, the Hamburg police and the Landesbetrieb Verkehr (LBV) Hamburg put the first two of a total of six ENFORCEMENT TRAILERs into operation. After a successful test phase last year, the semi-stationary speed measurement systems are now part of a speed monitoring concept. The aim is to further reduce the number of accidents in the Hanseatic city.
In future, the ENFORCEMENT TRAILERs will be used in particular in front of social facilities such as schools, daycare centers and other accident blackspots. One of the trailer's impressive features is its flexibility: thanks to easy transport and uncomplicated commissioning, it can be used flexibly - and not only - in the city. High-performance batteries that can be changed on site ensure that it can be used continuously for up to 10 days without the need for personnel during measurement operations. Hamburg's Interior Senator Andy Grote (SPD) on the advantages of the semi-stationary measuring system: "In the future, you have to expect more often that you will be checked where you are supposed to drive 30."
But it is not only the Hamburg police who are convinced of the ENFORCEMENT TRAILER's technology - the Hessian police headquarters are too. Thus, a framework agreement for the delivery of up to 13 ENFORCEMENT TRAILERS was already concluded late last summer. The first five trailers were delivered to the police headquarters in mid-February, from where they will be distributed to police stations throughout the state. A further eight ENFORCEMENT TRAILERS can be called up by 2020.
According to the Hessian Ministry of the Interior, the trailers will be used to monitor speeds, especially on accident-prone stretches of highway. At such difficult locations, measuring with mobile equipment is normally hardly possible due to the danger for measuring officers. Thanks to its autonomous operation, however, the ENFORCEMENT TRAILER is ideally suited for this purpose.
The ministry justifies the acquisition of the trailers with the danger posed by excessive speeds: "In addition to all attempts to achieve a change in behavior and attitude among vehicle drivers through education and information, the police will maintain control pressure." In 2017, he said, there were nearly 10,000 accidents due to speeding; 73 people were killed due to excessive speed.
In terms of the targeted Vision Zero - i.e. zero traffic fatalities on German roads - these are alarming figures. In the future, the ENFORCEMENT TRAILER will make a contribution to road safety throughout Germany by means of targeted speeding speed cameras and will attempt to counteract "speeding" - in urban speed 30 zones as well as on highways. It is not without reason that the measuring systems are considered to be "among the most productive in the country".
