live-eventDemo Day “Autonomous & Intelligent”: Digital Technologies Forum

FDT Demo Day: Experience innovations live

The Digital Technologies Forum (FDT) and the “ICT for Electric Mobility” technology program are hosting a Demo Day on September 24, 2025. This year's theme is “Autonomous & Intelligent – Innovations for Tomorrow's Electric Mobility.”

The event offers selected, federally funded research projects a stage to present their latest innovative solutions and approaches in the fields of autonomous driving, robotics, and smart logistics, thereby setting groundbreaking impulses for the e-mobility of the future.

The event is aimed at a specialist audience from politics, industry, research, and networks in the field of electric mobility and digitalization. In a compact afternoon format with short pitches at demo stations, a keynote speech, and a networking session, Demo Day offers space for exchange, transfer, and new collaborations.

VITRONIC as part of the “MAD Urban” research project

VITRONIC is delighted to be participating in this year's Demo Day as part of the MAD Urban research project. Our colleague Richard Werner will be presenting the stereo sensor used in the research project to detect traffic objects.

MAD Urban: Automated driving with intelligent infrastructure

The MAD Urban (“Managed Automated Driving”) project, funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), implements an innovative approach to vehicle automation: instead of integrating automation functions into the vehicle, they are outsourced to the infrastructure, edge and cloud systems. Through the continuous detection of all objects using infrastructure-based sensor technology, automated vehicles can be remotely controlled through appropriately equipped operating areas. This not only increases the economic efficiency of autonomous driving, but above all the safety of all road users.

The project has been in the test phase in Braunschweig since April 2025: VITRONIC has installed two innovative ITS columns with stereo sensors at Tostmannplatz to monitor traffic flow and guide automated vehicles safely through the intersection.

The goal of MAD Urban is to implement and demonstrate M.A.D. technology for the first time based on environment recognition using infrastructure-based sensor technology. Renowned partners from science and industry are working together on this project.
