AI-powered Automated License Plate Recognition
The Poliscan Enforcement Bar built on the Whelen Freedom IV platform captures license plates in real time across up to five lanes using Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras – and recognizes the color, make and model of vehicles by leveraging AI. The system operates whether the police vehicle is stationary or moving and automatically scans the surroundings to the right, left, and front of the vehicle using three cameras. As a result, parked cars are also inspected.
These advanced capabilities and the solution’s best in class read rate, even at high speeds, significantly reduce the time and effort required to search for and identify vehicles of interest, allowing officers to focus on other important tasks.
More responsiveness and safety for officers
The data collected by the Poliscan Enforcement Bar can be instantly transmitted to the database of the user or its agency, where it is compared to records of infractions and wanted, stolen or other vehicles of interest. In the event of a match, the officers immediately receive a signal and a visual notification on their vehicle’s laptop or tablet.
This real-time information not only enables officers to respond faster and with greater consistency, but also means they are better prepared when interacting with drivers at traffic stops. Consequently, vehicle enforcement becomes more effective, efficient, and safer overall.
Evidence preservation and real-time monitoring
Another benefit of the solution is the integrated video surveillance feature. The video camera is always running, and by activating the blue- /red-light, a recording can be triggered to preserve evidence. To ensure a video is recorded when an unexpected incident occurs, a three-minute recording buffer is provided before and after activation.
Additionally, an off-site officer in the central office can see the video feed through a livestream to follow what is happening on site. This video monitoring and capture further improves the safety of the officers, the responsiveness of law enforcement, and the gathering of evidence.
