For a Better Overview – Razor-sharp Color Images of Shipments
Wiesbaden, November 27, 2019 – Even if Auto-ID systems are running smoothly and packages are captured and identified correctly – CEP services sometimes need to know how a package looks like on the conveyor during the data capture process and what happens in the proximity. This information or image is used for claim management, to have a better visibility of the parcel flow and to improve the tracking of the objects.
Normal gray scale images taken by a line-scan camera as used in Auto-ID systems are not easy to interpret. The new VICAM OVP color matrix camera is integrated in VIPAC IN-MOTION systems and captures images of transported shipments, including surrounding packages, on dynamic conveyor and sorter systems at speeds of up to 3 meters per second. The sharp color image provides an immediate clear picture of what the package looked like in motion and what has happened around it. VICAM OVP provides a large field of view from a perspective that allows to see several sides of a shipment. This makes it significantly easier to trace and identify objects.
All overview images are saved in an archiving system together with all other captured data of the shipments – barcodes / 2D-codes, volume and weight as well as the grey-scale images from the objects of up to six sides. Optionally, the data from the customer’s certified dimensioning system can be incrusted in the VICAM OVP image so that the images and their data serve as simplified proof of the correct LFT measurement.
The benefits of the overview camera are obvious: simplified track & trace, simplified identification of objects and simplified proof of correct legal for trade data.
